There is no easy way to tell what the popcorn acoustic ceiling material is made of. Generally, the
older the home or property, the more likely that an acoustic ceiling will contain asbestos. Homes less
than fifteen years old with original ceilings are less likely to have asbestos. You can collect the sample
yourself and send it to a laboratory that is qualified to test for asbestos, but we recommend only a licensed
California Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) working under
the direction of a CAC can collect asbestos samples or perform any asbestos risk assessment. Just let us
know how we can assist you making any of these decisions.
Acoustic Removal Experts is licensed to remove only non-asbestos acoustical ceiling texture, which
we do ourselves. If your ceilings tests positive, don’t panic. We contract only with DOSH certified
abatement contractors that specialize in the safe abatement of asbestos material. After they complete the
asbestos removal, then we come in right after them and complete the texturing, recessed lighting or the
painting of your new ceilings.
